Hon. John Michael Vazquez '96

Called to the Federal Bench

“We are proud that John Vazquez’s talents, and his service to the State of New Jersey, were recognized by President Obama, who appointed him to this important position,” said Dean Kathleen M. Boozang.


Seton Hall Law congratulates summa cum laude graduate John Michael Vazquez ’96, who was confirmed on January 27 as a Judge for the U.S. District for the District of New Jersey.

Judge Vazquez joins the bench as a partner at Critchley, Kinum & Vazquez, LLC since 2008, practicing both civil and criminal litigation. Previously, from 2006 to 2008, he worked in the Office of the Attorney General for the State of New Jersey, serving first as Special Assistant to the Attorney General and subsequently as First Assistant Attorney General. From 2001 to 2006, Judge Vazquez was an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey and prior to that, he was an associate in the Law Offices of Michael Critchley and Associates. Judge Vazquez began his legal career by serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Herman D. Michels on the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division.
