Public Interest and Government Service

Social justice, public policy, immigration rights, advocating for the poor; upholding local state and federal laws through the courts, or myriad government departments and agencies…as a Seton Hall Law student you will find multiple, real-world opportunities for making a difference in the lives of others.

These opportunities are open to you long before you graduate. Through internships, fellowships and our onsite clinic, Seton Hall Law students put their skills to work as practicing lawyers under the tutelage of professors and practitioners who are renowned in their fields.

The Center for Social Justice provides outstanding legal preparation through one of the most comprehensive clinical and pro bono programs offered by any metropolitan-area law school.  CSJ for-credit clinical programs and its pro bono services allow students to engage in a legal apprenticeship, representing clients in cases across the range of family law to immigration.

The Center for Policy and Research comprises legal scholars and fellows who employ their investigative skills to advance the rule of law on a national and international scale. The Center’s series of reports on the detention camps in Guantánamo Bay has achieved international prominence since the first report was issued in 2006.

Graduates who pursue careers in the public service and government service areas are also eligible for a generous loan forgiveness program offered through the federal government’s College Cost Reduction Act.

Seton Hall Law has developed an impressive track record of preparing lawyers for careers within government and public service. Our location in New Jersey additionally provides easy access for building careers along the Eastern corridor from New York City to Washington, D.C.
