WHAT IS AN MSJ?
Seton Hall Law School's Master of Science in Jurisprudence (MSJ) provides professionals working in health care, pharmaceuticals, information technology, telecommunications and biotechnology with a solid foundation in the legal and regulatory aspects of these industries. Students can concentrate in health law, intellectual property, or both. Students can complete the MSJ entirely online or can pursue a hybrid online/in-person degree at the Law School in Newark, New Jersey.
WHAT CAN I DO WITH AN MSJ DEGREE?
The MSJ degree is unique in that is is specifically designed to provide a rigorous grounding in the law for students who do not want to become lawyers, but who instead want to use the law to enhance their effectiveness and marketability in a non-legal career. Combining this unique degree with their professional experience, MSJ graduates are discovering that there are unlimited opportunities available to them. MSJ alumni work in a broad spectrum of positions: compliance officers, contract analysts, health care administrators, medical technologists, nurse managers, patent/trademark assistants, pharmaceutical financial analysts, pharmacists, quality assurance managers, supervisors, clinical operations directors, administrators and lobbyists.
HOW MANY CREDITS WILL I NEED TO GRADUATE?
Thirty credits are required to graduate. All credits must be completed within six years of entry into the Program in order to graduate.
WHAT COURSES WILL I BE REQUIRED TO TAKE?
ALL MSJ students are required to take:
- The Legal System: Research & Writing
- Torts
- Business Law Survey
- Constitutional Law
Health Law Track Requirements:
- Six credits of Health Law electives
- Six credits of Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Law & Compliance electives
Intellectual Property Track Requirements:
- Six credits of Intellectual Property Law electives
Dual Health Law / Intellectual Property Law Track Requirements:
- Six credits of Health Law or Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Law & Compliance electives
- Six credits of Intellectual Property Law electives
- Remaining credits are satisfied through any combination of online electives or in-person electives in Health Law; Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Law & Compliance; Human Resources Law and Intellectual Property Law.
WHAT ARE YOUR APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?

- Personal Statement (2-3 pages double-spaced relating how the MSJ degree is applicable to your professional goals)
- Two letters of recommendation (emailed letters from recommender are accepted and can be sent to helen.cummings@shu.edu)
- Transcripts from all universities/colleges attended
- $60 application fee
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?

WHAT IS THE 2013-2014 TUITION?
Tuition is $990/credit.
IS FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE?
Financial aid assistance is available through the Federal Stafford Loan Program and/or private loans. To be considered for this program, individuals who have been accepted into the program must file the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), found online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Upon receipt of the FAFSA information, Seton Hall Law's Office of Financial Resource Management will review the student's eligibility and send an Award Notice. Part-time students need to take at least five credits a semester (four in the summer semester) to be eligible for financial aid assistance. HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN THE PROGRAM?
The number of students varies, with typically 25-35 students enrolling each year.
DO YOU OFFER BOTH FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME PROGRAMS?
Yes. Full-time students complete the program in one year; part-time students complete the program in two years. Students have up to six years in which to complete their course work.
WHEN DO CLASSES BEGIN AND WHEN ARE COURSES USUALLY OFFERED?
The MSJ program offers several start dates each year. Email helen.cummings@shu.edu or call 973-642-8380 for the start date of our next MSJ class. Required courses are offered online and elective courses are offered both online and in-person at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, New Jersey. The MSJ degree can be earned entirely online and the online courses are convenient, asynchronous courses designed for MSJ students who are working professionals. In-person courses are offered in the evenings for the convenience of working professionals.
