Chamonix-Geneva Study Abroad
Chamonix-Geneva Information
December 27, 2012 - January 5, 2013
The Seton Hall University School of Law Chamonix-Geneva Program in International Human Rights Law will operate for two weeks each winter in Chamonix, France and Geneva, Switzerland.
The program will consist of a two-credit course on International Human Rights Law. This course will cover the foundations of human rights law, global norms and institutions, human rights of women, minority rights and ethnic profiling, health and human rights, reservations to treaties, and human rights in armed conflict. The substantive focus of the lectures will be tailored to provide an overview and insight into the institutional building blocks of the human rights system, and extraterritorial application of human rights treaties. A significant component of the course will involve visits to international human rights organizations located in Geneva, including the World Health Organization’s Department of Ethics, Equity, Trade and Human Rights and the International Labour Organization.
Classes will be held on December 27, 28, 29, 30 and January 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Most classes will be held in a conference room at the Hotel Alpina in Chamonix, from 3:30-6:35. On one or two days during the second week, classes will consist of study visits to international human rights organizations in Geneva.
