Applying for Loans   

Please make sure you read the instructions for each type of student loan below.

Federal Stafford Loan
Federal Grad Plus Loan

Federal Perkins Loan

FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN

  1. Complete an Entrance Interview. If this is your first Stafford or Grad Plus loan with Seton Hall Law, you must complete a Stafford /Grad Plus Loan Entrance Interview. You may complete this online by logging into: www.mappingyourfuture.org
  2. Accept Your Loans on PirateNetAll students, including continuing students, must accept their loans via PirateNet.
  3. Login to PirateNet here 
  4. Choose Your Lender and Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).  The MPN is a legally binding contract between the borrower and the lender which outlines the borrower's responsibilities to repay all funds borrowed plus interest and fees.  All first time Stafford and/or Grad Plus borrowers at Seton Hall Law must sign a Master Promissory Note.  The MPN may be accessed and signed electronically at the lender's website. 
    1. First time borrowers will receive an email from our state guarantor, NJHESAA (New Jersey Higher Education Assistance Authority), with further instructions on completing this process.  If you wish to borrow from another guarantor, please complete the Loan Adjustment Form and submit to the Financial Aid Office.

    2. Returning borrowers:  After accepting your loan on Self Service, we will process your loan with the lender you chose last year.  If you wish to switch lenders, please submit the Loan Adjustment Form and return this form to the Office of Financial Resource Management at the law school (3rd floor). 

    3. For your convenience we have compiled a Lender Comparison Chart that may assist you in the lender selection process.  You may use any lender you choose.

FEDERAL GRAD PLUS LOAN

  1. Complete Entrance Counseling.  If you are a first time borrower at Seton Hall Law, or you are returning to school from a break in attendance, you must complete student loan entrance counseling online: www.mappingyourfuture.org

FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN

PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS

Private Loans are designed to assist students pay for their educational expenses.  Students may borrow up to their Cost of Attendance less all other aid.  We recommend that you explore all federal student aid options prior to applying for a private loan.  You may research private loan options here.
