DeanFounded in 1951, Seton Hall University School of Law is the only private law school in New Jersey and is widely respected for its top-caliber faculty and innovative academic programs.

SHL’s faculty is known for being widely-published legal scholars, most of whom have also practiced law. They are accessible and invite ongoing dialogue with their students. Many also hold advanced degrees in other disciplines, making them particularly qualified to provide a fully-rounded and rigorous legal education.

There are certain qualities that set SHL apart and give it a unique character. Among them are a curriculum that has a strong balance of theory and practice, and flexibility and dedication to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and its value of academic freedom in the pursuit of both. Scholarship enhances teaching while contributing to the legal academy's intellectual enterprise. It effects change in the law and public policy. Teaching and scholarship are inextricably linked with service to the community. The Law School commits substantial resources to its clinical programs, and sponsors numerous events each year that bring hundreds of community members to the Law School for consideration and discussion of the compelling issues of the day. Faculty pursue community service projects that promote issues of importance to the Law School and University, and further our social justice mission.
