Our Priorities

Proud to be a national law school, we plan to be numbered among the best in the country.

Over the past few years, the Law School faculty and Board of Visitors engaged in a strategic planning process with members of the larger community that resulted in a five-year Strategic Plan. From there, we identified the priorities for the Seton Hall | Law Rising Campaign.

The strategic planning process found that by almost every objective measure Seton Hall is a highly successful law school, gaining increased recognition for our excellence:

  • Top students are obtaining placements at the nation’s most prestigious firms

  • Bar passage rates are the highest in New Jersey and among the best in New York City

  • We have developed unique specialties, including one of the premier health law programs in the country

  • Faculty receive high marks for teaching excellence and are producing scholarship at unprecedented levels

  • Entering students’ median academic profile ranks them in the top 20 percent of law school applicants nationally.

The process also identified the Law School’s greatest challenges:

  • Externally, perception continues to trail reality in subjective performance measures

  • Internally, the demand for better services and support has grown with the quality of our student body

  • We are competitively disadvantaged by our low level of endowment funds for student scholarships and faculty support.

To improve our competitive position and increase our reputation for academic excellence, we identified specific strategic goals, along with a list of specific objectives and action items to achieve each goal. These actions will result in a measurable enhancement in the academic environment. The strategic goals guided us as we chose the priorities for the Campaign.

“Successful implementation of the strategic plan requires increased financial support through the
Seton Hall | Law Rising Campaign. Communication of our success will secure for the Law School a stronger admission applicant pool, broader and stronger external recognition, and enhanced alumni pride in their law degree.”
