Dear Mr. Berlin:
I am writing to apply for a summer associate position at Smith, Thomas & Raines. I am a second
year student at Seton Hall University School of Law and a 2002 honors graduate of the University of
Virginia.
Before attending law school, I gained experience working in a small law firm where I had an
opportunity to work on individual cases with minimal supervision. I was able to provide assistance
to lawyers in preparing interrogatories, abstracting depositions and drafting settlement letters.
Last summer I clerked in the chambers of Judge Roy Bean, Superior Court of New Jersey, Calaveras
Vicinage, and this spring I will be participating in Seton Hall's Civil Litigation Clinic, which
will give me further practical experience.
