Applying for Loans

  1. Complete an Entrance Interview. If this is your first Stafford or Grad Plus loan with Seton Hall Law, you must complete a Stafford /Grad Plus Loan Entrance Interview. You may complete this on-line by logging into: www.mapping-your-future.org.

First time Perkins Loan borrowers may also complete the Perkins Loan Entrance Interview at:

    https://www.fc.campusoncall.com/cgi-bin/welcome.pl?campus=setonhall

Federal Stafford Loan and/or Federal Perkins Loan funds will not be disbursed until after the Entrance Interview has been completed.

  2. *NEW for 2008-09*  Accept Your Loans on Student Self Service

All students, including continuing students, must accept their loans on Student Self Service via myLAW.

  3. Choose Your Lender.  There are many lenders to choose from and students generally ask for assistance.  You may wish to consider the following when choosing a lender.

    • Does the lender offer benefits or incentives for paying on-time, enrolling in an auto-debit program, or other criteria?
    • How long has the lender been in the student loan industry?
    • Does the lender sell their student loans?
    • Does the lender provide clear, concise, information?
    • Does the lender provide guidance on managing your debt?

You may also click here for our Lender Comparison Chart.  You may use any lender you choose.  You should choose the lender that best suits your needs.

  4. Complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
The MPN is a legally binding contract between the borrower and the lender which outlines the borrower's responsibilities to repay all funds borrowed plus interest and fees.  All first time Stafford and/or Grad Plus borrowers at Seton Hall Law must sign a Master Promissory Note.  The MPN may be accessed and signed electronically at the lender's website.  If you've chosen one of the lenders listed on our Lender Comparison Chart, you may access the lender's website by clicking on the lender name.

NOTE:  A separate MPN is required for the Stafford and Grad PLUS loans.
