How to Determine the Size of your Lotus Notes Database

  1. Please open your Lotus Notes using the full client (not Webmail). If Notes opens to the screen shown below, please skip to step 4.  If not, please open the Workspace view of Notes as detailed in steps 2 and 3.

  1. Click the Databases icon on the left bar of your Lotus Notes screen.  It should be the second folder in the bottom group of buttons (pictured below), but if you hold the mouse over each folder, its name will appear:

  1. A menu will appear with different databases.  Find the database Workspace and click on it.  This will open the Workspace view of your database (shown in Step 1).

  1. Find the icon labeled “Your Name” on LAW01 (see below):

  1. Right click on that icon to view a drop down menu and then choose Database and Properties to get the following Database window.  Click on the “i” (second tab from the left):

  1. Click on the % used button to get the amount of space the server thinks you are using.  If the percentage is under 95%, click the Compact button and wait a few minutes while your database is compacted (depending on the size of your database, compacting can take up to 5 minutes).  After waiting a few minutes, close the database window and redo Steps 4 and 5 until your percentage used is over 95%

  1. You will now have an accurate reading as to your Disk Space.  The number shown next to Disk Space is the size of your Lotus Notes database (shown above as 13 MB).

  1. You can now continue with the email management procedures.  (Close this window to return to the Email Management Page)
