Network Account Creation

The Division of Legal Computing provides all full time faculty, administrators, librarians and staff with a network account, email account, network login code and first time login password to their corresponding network. Your login code usually consists of the first 6 letters of your LAST name and the first 2 of your FIRST name. If your last name is less than 6 letters then use your entire last name and as much of your first name as needed to get 8 letters. (Ex: SMITHJOE for Joe Smith).  All new personnel should contact the Asst. Dean of Legal Computing to receive their login code and first time password.

Your network account allows you access to all core programs on our network as well as email, the Internet and other important services. Your account also provides access to storage space on our network drives for files and other data in a private home directory located on our F: drive. (Ex. F:\FACULTY\SMITHJOE)  Your F: drive also contains a subdirectory called NETWIN which is used exclusively for Lotus Notes email client setup files. Please do not move or delete this directory, or store data files in it.

Upon hiring and the completion of all HR forms, a Lotus Notes email account is also created for you with the same 8 letter designation. This is your email address, with SHU.EDU as the @ extension. (Ex. SMITHJOE@SHU.EDU )  Your 8 letter login code is also your Domino ID, which is used for accessing email through webmail.  Please note that if ALL HR forms are not completed in full the creation of your email account may be delayed.  If this occurs please contact the Division of Legal Computing at 973-642-8017 or fill out an online trouble ticket at our virtual helpdesk describing the problem.

It is highly recommended that all first time network users change their network and email passwords to something private and easily remembered. All passwords must contain at least 5 letters or numbers, with no periods, commas, dashes, spaces or obscure characters.
