Network Maintenance Policy

Purges, File Deletions and Network Maintenance: Certain network cleansing procedures must be employed on a regular basis in order to maintain the health of our networks. Deleted or "dead" files must be cleared from network drives in order to make room for more "live" data. These deletions, known as PURGES, permanently clear deleted files from a network drive so that even salvage attempts cannot bring them back. The Division performs these purges on a regular basis (usually every 2 weeks) or when needed. Therefore, all users are warned not to delete any files they may one day want back. (duh)

We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but remind all users that the Division reserves the right to take whatever steps necessary to ensure the continued operation of our networks, up to an including erasure of individual account files. Students are instructed (and constantly encouraged) to make backups of files on multiple devices and take them with them.
