Lotus Notes 7.0.2 Installation Guide for Windows



Note:  This installation will only work while on campus.  After installation, follow the instructions on how to setup Lotus Notes to work off campus.
  1. From the Download Center, download the Lotus Notes 7.0.2 client software to your Desktop.

  2. Go to your Desktop and Double-click on Notes702.exe.  The Location to Save Files window should appear.  Leave the default location and click Next.  Wait for the Welcome to the Installation Wizard for Lotus Notes 7.0.2 window to open.  A large number of files need to be copied, so be patient.

  3. Click Next when the Welcome to the Installation Wizard for Lotus Notes 7.0.2 window opens.

  4. Read the License Agreement, click on I accept the terms in the license agreement, then click Next.

  5. Enter your name into the User Name field and Seton Hall Law School into the Organization field.  Select Only for me (Single User Install) under Install this application for.  Click Next.



  6. Leave Installation Path Selection: at its default settings.  Click Next.

  7. Leave Custom Setup at its default setting.  Click Next.

  8. If you intend to use Lotus Notes as your default email program, you can leave Ready to Install the Program at its default settings. This will make Notes your default e-mail program.  But, if you intend on using another email program as your default, such as Microsoft Outlook, uncheck Make Notes my default email program.  Click Install.  The installation's progress will be displayed and does not require user input.

  9. When you see The Install Wizard Completed, click Finish to close the installer.
  10. Lotus Notes has been successfully installed. A Lotus Notes 7 icon "" has been placed on your desktop.

Launch Notes to Complete the Installation

  1. Launch Lotus Notes using the icon on your desktop "" or through the Start menu.   This opens a Lotus Notes Client Configuration window.

  2. Click Next in the Welcome screen.

  3. Enter your first and last name in the Your name field.  (Note: This name must match what is listed in the SHU address book, so if you have issues after entering your information, please check with the DLC Helpdesk to make sure you have entered the information correctly).


    Enter law01/shu in the
    Domino server field.  I want to connect to a Domino server must be checked.  Click Next to open the Notes ID File screen.



  4. At this point in the setup, you will need to get your Lotus Notes ID file, which is located in your personal SHLS network drive.  If you are on the wireless network, you will need to login to a lab PC in the Computing Lab or Library in order to access you Noted id file.  You can then email it to an outside account, or copy it to a flash drive, in order to move it to your laptop.

    Your id file will be your 8 letter SHU ID followed by ".id" (i.e., smithjos.id).  Once you locate the file, copy it to your Desktop to make the installation easier.

  5. Click Browse to import your Notes ID file.



  6. Navigate to the Desktop (or other location you have saved your Notes ID File to) in the Enter New User ID File Name window.  Select your Notes ID File then click Open.

  7. You will be back at the Notes ID File window.  Click Next.



  8. Click Yes when asked if you want your ID file copied to your data directory.



  9. Enter your Notes password when prompted, then click OKYour first time Lotus Notes/Blackboard password is the first 4 letters of your last name in CAPS, then the last 4 of your social security number, then the # sign. (ex.  SMIT1234# for Joseph Smith).



  10. Uncheck Setup instant messaging then click Next.



  11. Leave all Additional Services check boxes unchecked.  Click Next.



  12. An IBM Lotus Notes window will open telling you that Notes setup is complete.  Click OK.

  13. You will be asked to create a Welcome Page and, optionally, create a customized Welcome Page.  Unless you are an experienced Notes user, click on the checkmark icon to the left of No thanks, just give me the defaults.

  14. Notes will open at the Welcome Page.  As you become familiar with Notes you may want to choose a more complex Welcome Page by clicking Click here for Welcome Page options in the Welcome Page.



  15. Delete your Notes ID file from your Desktop (or other location you saved it to) then empty your trash.


Configuring Lotus Notes for Off-Campus Use

While this installation will allow you to check your email on campus, there is one more step that must be performed in order for you to check your mail off-campus.

  1. From your Welcome Page, select Contacts to open your Personal Address Book.


  2. In the left hand menu, go to Advanced, and then Connections.


  3. After highlighting Connections, in the main window to the right, select the New drop-down menu, then select Server Connection.


  4. In the Server Connection window, under the Basics tab, set Connection Type to Local Area Network, select TCPIP for Use LAN Port, and the Server Name is law01/shu.  These settings are also shown in the picture below:

  5. Next, click on the Advanced tab.

  6. In the Server Connection Advanced area, the only field that you need to fill in is the Destination Server Address, which is 149.150.209.33, and the remaining field remain as is.


  7. Click on Save & Close in the upper-left corner, and your Lotus Notes account can now be used anywhere in the world where you have an Internet connection!
