Certifying Your Laptop For Our Law School Wireless System...

In order for your laptop to connect to our wireless network, it first must be "certified" to our wireless controllers.  This means it must meet our minimum security software specifications, show a complete clean system scan and be configured with our wireless network settings.  To certify your laptop, please complete the steps below (Windows Laptops Only):..

1. Install Norton Anti-Virus and Update Your Virus Definition:  Make sure that you have the latest Norton Anti-virus software loaded on your laptop with the latest virus definitions.  The law school provides Norton Anti-virus software free of charge to all students so if you need a copy please visit the Legal Computing Download Center and install it for free.  After downloading please run a COMPLETE SCAN to ensure that no viruses are present on your system.

2. Complete Your Windows Updates:  It is imperative that your Windows operating system be as up to date as possible so that all know security issues have been addressed.  At present this means that all systems must be updated to Windows XP SP2 with automatic updates on. Please complete these updates before coming for the last step of certification, as the SP2 download can take some time.

3. Install and RUN Anti-Spy Software: Spyware is now as pervasive as viruses on the Net and just as dangerous.  To meet our specifications you must install and run an anti-spy software regularly to meet this threat.  Currently we recommend Windows Defender, which is free on Microsoft's site.  Once downloaded, installed and updated please run a COMPLETE scan to clear all spyware from your PC, and verify that your last scan show no files, processes or registry entries present.

4. Visit our Law Helpdesk For Verification and Certification: Once you have completed the steps above, please visit our law helpdesk in our primary computer lab or IT suite located on the 4th floor student wing, and show your laptop to the professional or monitor on duty.  They will then verify that you have completed the previous steps, check that your wireless configuration is correct, and then complete our online certification form.

After completing the form you laptop should be able to access our network within 48 - 72 hrs...

Note:  MAC users should come to the Law Helpdesk for special manual configuration...
