Using Lotus Notes Through Microsoft Outlook - IMAP

Your SHU Lotus Notes email account can be accessed through Microsoft Outlook but certain steps must be taken first to convert your account into a format Outlook can read, and then Outlook must be configured to download your SHU mail. Please follow the process below:

1.  Request an IMAP Conversion on your SHU Account

From your current SHU email account, send an email to helpdesk@shu.edu or call x2222 (that's 973-761-9000, x2222 from outside the law school) and request that your SHU email account be converted for IMAP Outlook use. Use the phrase "Convert my account to IMAP" and a service request ticket will be created for you in the University IT tracking system.  It will then be forwarded to a systems technician and an IMAP conversion will be run on your account.  The whole process should take up to 48 hours, depending on the volume of requests...

2.  Meet the Prerequisites for Local Outlook  -  Make sure you know the following:

a. You are running Outlook Express 6.0
b. You know the name of your ISP’s Outgoing mail server (e.g.: smtp.comcast.net, mail.optonline.net)
c. You know the name of the law school's SHU email server (which is law01.shu.edu)
d. You have your Lotus Notes account shortname and Webmail password available.  (Your shortname is your 8 letter login code...)

3.  Configuring Outlook - Once the IMAP conversion is complete please follow the steps below to configure Outlook to accept SHU mail...

b.
Select the “Tools” menu and pick the “Accounts” option
c.
Click the “Add” button and select the “Mail” option
d.

e.
Enter your SHU email address and click “Next”
f.
In the “My incoming Mail Server is a” section, select “IMAP” from the list
g.
In the “Incoming Mail Server” section, enter your SHU mail server (law01.shu.edu)

h.
In the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:” enter your ISP’s outgoing mail server (e.g.: smtp.comcast.net, mail.optonline.net), or if you are using this ON CAMPUS, enter smtp.shu.edu and click “Next”

i.   In the “Account Name” section, enter your account shortname
j.
In the “Password” section, enter your Lotus Notes webmail password
k.  Make sure the “Remember password” box is checked and click “Next”

Please remember that your outgoing server can change depending on your location, so if you are loading this on a laptop you may need to switch between your ISP's outgoing server and the law school's outgoing server of smtp.shu.edu...  or make an entry for both possibilities...
