| Blackboard is a comprehensive and
flexible e-Learning software platform that delivers a
course management system, a customizable
institution-wide portal, and online community services.
Upon admittance to SHU Law, a
Blackboard account is created
for you using the first 6
letters of your LAST name and the first 2 of your FIRST name. This 8 letter
designation is also known as your "shortname" as
well as your Notes
Domino ID. If
your last name is less than 6 letters then you code is your entire last name
and as much of your first name as needed to reach 8 letters. (Ex:
smithjos for Joseph Smith). If your last and first name together
do not consist of 8 letters, then use your entire last name and
first name. (Ex. bellann for Ann Bell).
Your first time
password for your Blackboard account is the same as your
webmail password, which is your student
ID. It is highly recommended that
all first time network users change their "internet" password to
something more private and easily remembered. You can change
your Webmail / Blackboard password by first entering Blackboard
and clicking on the "Change Your Internet Password"
link in the Tools menu on the left.
As Blackboard is a portal, it is a place where
information can be tailored to you. Based on a
pre-designated role (such as student, faculty, administrator
or staff), certain information will be "pushed" to you and
appear on your screen. In this way you can streamline
the way information is viewed, similar to web portals such
as My Yahoo! or MSN.
Most importantly, courses materials can be posted and
distributed by your professors along with valuable links,
class rosters and other classroom online content.
