Your Student Network Account and Email Access
Upon
admittance to Seton Hall Law School, all students are provided with a
network account, email account, network login code
and first time network login password. This allows students access to
our local area network (Novell) at over 200 computers throughout the law building.
Your login code (or shortname) is an 8 letter code consisting of the first 6 letters of your LAST name and the first 2 of your FIRST name. If your last name is less than 6 letters then you code is your entire last name and as much of your first name as you can until you reach 8 letters. (Ex: SMITHJOE for Joe Smith). If your last and first name together do not consist of 8 letters, then use your entire last name and first name. (Ex. BELLJOE for Joe Bell). Your first time password for your network and email account is your student ID.
Your network account allows you access to all core programs available on our network as well as access to the Internet and other important services on our public computer stations. Your account also provides you with up to 100 megs of storage space on our network drives for files and other data in a private home directory known as F:\STUDENTS\(your login code). (Ex. F:\STUDENTS\SMITHJOE) Network storage space is designed for saving data such as word processing documents, pdfs and other school related documents. Please do not use this space for game storage, .exe files, Jpgs, pics or any other picture or movie files, or any other non-school related documents.
When your network account is created, a Lotus Notes email account is also created at our main campus using the same 8 letter designation. This is your email address, with SHU.EDU as the extension. (Ex. SMITHJOE@SHU.EDU) Your 8 letter login code is also called your Domino ID, which is used for access to email through Webmail.
It is highly recommended that all
first time network users change their network and email passwords to something
private and easily remembered. All passwords must contain at least 5
letters or numbers, with no periods, commas, dashes, spaces or
obscure characters.
Please
note that your network password and your Webmail password are
two different passwords, so changing one does not change
the other. We recommend that you manually synchronize
both these passwords so that they are more easily remembered,
or use different passwords for higher security.
