Anti-Virus Programs  (Norton Anti-Virus
)   (last updated 10/15/05)

As many of you are unfortunately aware, computer viruses are a widespread problem to PC users as more and more of us use the Internet in our daily lives.  When a virus hits it can cripple your PC or a whole IT system, sending us scrambling for updated virus lists and removal tools.

To protect against viruses, it is critical that ALL users install and maintain an anti-virus program on their PCs such as Norton Anti-virus.  This will severely decrease your chances of contracting a virus and spreading it to others.

Please note that Seton Hall Law School and the Division of Legal Computing has purchased a Norton Anti-virus license for every law student laptop, even if you didn't buy your laptop through the school.  So please don't buy one, just come and see us for an installation...

Also, as a matter of good system maintenance, ALL users should check their anti-virus every week or so to make sure that it is up to the latest virus definition (or DAT file).  While Norton's now auto-updates (Live Update), some viruses can disable this process leaving you vulnerable to attack.

If you believe your system has a virus or would like more information on the latest virus threats and removal procedures please visit our Virus Information and Removal page...
