Closed Courses

A student cannot be signed into a closed course by the professor. The Law School sets course enrollments and determines when a course is listed as closed.

Add / Drop Procedures

The Drop/Add period consists of the first week of classes of each semester. Actual times will be published in the registration handbook. A student who has an outstanding tuition balance will not be permitted to add courses and must resolve the balance with the Bursar's Office. Please check the examination schedule before adding courses to insure that the examinations do not conflict.

Enrollment Limitations on Seminars

Only sixteen students may register in seminar courses. Some drafting courses are limited to as few as twelve students because of the nature of the course.

Overlapping Courses

A student may not register for courses where scheduled meeting times overlap. The Administration reserves the right to void the registration of any student violating this rule.

Withdrawal from Courses

A student is permitted to withdraw from a course up until the day of the scheduled examination (a student cannot withdraw from a take-home examination once the examination has been distributed to any student), or in the case of a seminar course, up to the day in which the paper is due.  However, no student may attempt more than 95 credits of academic work, including retaken courses.  A course from which a student withdraws with the approval of the Dean of Students does not account as an attempted course.  Notwithstanding the above, any student who is involuntarily withdrawn or who withdraws, with or without approval, from more than 20 credits will be automatically dismissed.

Students seeking to withdraw from one course while retaining another after the Drop/Add period must complete an "Adjustment" form with the Registrar's Office.  No refund of tuition is granted for course withdrawals after the Drop/Add period.  A student withdrawing from a course will receive a grade of "WD" (Withdrawal).

Withdrawal from School

Students must submit to the Registrar written notice of withdrawal from the Law School. The date on which the Registrar receives the written notice governs academic and financial consequences. A student who fails to notify the Registrar's Office in writing of such withdrawal will receive a grade of "F" in each course which he or she is registered.
