DRAFTING LEGAL INSTRUMENTS (WRTG9141)
2 credits. Seminar.

The aim of legal writing is to persuade or explain. This can best be accomplished by using simple English and avoiding "legalese." The course will consider the drafting of legal documents, particularly litigation papers, but including letters and contracts. The New Jersey and New York "plain language" statutes will also be considered. Each student will be required to redraft one or more confusing documents and to draft one or more letters and litigation documents in plain language.

Note:  Students cannot apply both this course and Drafting Litigation Documents (WRTG9144) towards degree requirements.
