Environmental Law

The basic course is Environmental Law. Students interested in a career in environmental law should begin with this course whenever possible, although it is not currently a prerequisite for other courses in the area. This course is also appropriate for students who simply want to know something about environmental law.
 
For students interested in a career in environmental law, the following two courses are essential.

Such students should also take most of the following courses. Some of these courses will only be offered every other year, so students interested in a career in environmental law should be sure to register for these courses the first time they are offered; there may not be another opportunity.

Students interested in a career in environmental law may also want to consider Externships at the federal Environmental Protection Agency regional offices (in New York City or Philadelphia), the Eastern Environmental Law Center (in Newark), or the New Jersey Office of Administrative Law (in Newark or Trenton). Advanced courses in the areas of real estate transactions, litigation and public international law may also be helpful.
 
Other environmental courses and AWR seminars may be offered from time to time. These will shed light on various aspects of environmental regulation and environmental law practice and policy.  Typically, there are no prerequisites, but enrollment is limited.
