Family Law

There are a number of courses that all students interested in pursuing a career in family law should take.  They are:

- Constitutional Law*
- Family Law, Marriage & Divorce*
- Federal Income Tax*
- Professional Responsibility*
- Family Law Clinic or Juvenile Justice Clinic


Students interested in practicing in the matrimonial law area should consider taking:

- Family Mediation
- Estates & Trusts


Students interested in practicing family law primarily in the public sector (for example, as in a state’s Division of Youth & Family Services) or representing children in abuse and neglect or juvenile delinquency proceedings should take:

- Children, Family & the State (AWR option)
- Criminal Law*


The following are courses that would be useful to students seeking to pursue a career in family law:

- Adoption Law
- International & Comparative Family Law (AWR mandatory)
- Law & Sexuality
- Gender & the Law (AWR mandatory)
- Elder Law
- Immigration Law
- Conflict of Laws
