Tuition will be assessed at a rate of no more than $1,500 per credit.
In addition to their tuition, each student will also pay a $190 registration fee, and a $100
activity fee. First year Seton Hall students who enroll will be assessed an
Administrative Fee rather than a per-credit tuition charge. All other students will be
assessed a per-credit tuition charge.
Students should also anticipate the following additional expenses:
- Airfare
- Accommodations
- Visa and Passport Fees
- Ground Transportation
- Living Expenses (spending money, food, incidentals)
- Health Insurance (if coverage not already in force)
- Ground Transportation
- Health Insurance
- Books
We expect round-trip coach airfare to Cairo from New York to be no more than
$1,500, if booked early.
Housing for unmarried non-Seton Hall students and Seton Hall students paying per
credit who choose to live in the dorm is free. Married students and students
accompanied by children must live off campus. The program will issue a housing
voucher equivalent to the cost of the dorm for the summer for those married
students and students accompanied by children who must live off-campus. Seton
Hall Law students who pay the study abroad fee will be charged $750 to cover the
cost of housing if the student chooses to live in the dorm.
Each student must have a health insurance plan that includes coverage for
medical care overseas. If the student does not have such a plan in force, the
program can arrange for such coverage though a number of inexpensive group
insurance plans. Most of these plans offer insurance for the summer for a very
small premium. Health insurance is mandatory for participation in this program.
You will be required to provide proof of insurance before registration in the
program.
A student must possess a valid passport which will expire more than six months
after our arrival in Egypt (i.e., later than December 1, 2009). Each student
must also possess a valid visa for entry into Egypt. As of this writing, a U.S.
Passport costs $97 ($67 to renew). The Egyptian visa costs $15 for U.S. citizens
for 30 days. Because of the length of our program, the visa must be renewed once
while we are in Egypt. Students can obtain the visa from their nearest Egyptian
Consulate.
Each student is entitled to one complementary pick-up and drop-off at Cairo
International Airport courtesy of the program and the AUC Travel Office. Taxi
fares in Cairo for other transportation needs are generally very inexpensive.
Living costs will depend on how lavishly or frugally the student wishes to live.
Food and basic living costs in Egypt are very inexpensive. It is easy to eat
well and enjoy the city of Cairo for less than $10.00 a day. We recommend a
budget of about $12.50 a day, which will allow for a comfortable experience. We
recommend that each student should budget a total of $1000 for living costs and
unforeseen emergencies. Naturally, souvenir and shopping costs are extra and not
included in this figure
Cairo Summer Program students will be able to take advantage of AUC and program
sponsored tours to ancient Egyptian archaeological, geological, and historical
sites at reduced rates. A student wishing to take advantage of these
opportunities should be prepared to spend an additional $500-$1,000, depending
on the number of tours the student wishes to take. The summer program offers
four tours– a weekend excursion to St. Catherine's Monastery, Mt. Sinai and
Sharm el Sheikh, a weekend trip to Alexandria, a one-day tour of the Suez Canal;
and a post-program four day Nile cruise on a 5-star cruise ship. The cost of
these tours will be no more that $1000 in total. The Suez Canal tour is free.
The Program will collect $100 from each student to cover the cost of the Program
Dinner, End-of-Program Party, gratuities, and incidental costs incurred during
the summer.
