STUDY ABROAD
Winter Intersession Program on Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking

December 21, 2008 - January 4, 2009
Optional Mainland Safari - January 5 - January 10, 2009

Seton Hall University School of Law is pleased to offer students the first and only American Bar Association-approved winter intersession study abroad program focusing on modern day slavery and human trafficking. The program will operate in Zanzibar, Tanzania for two weeks each winter beginning in the winter of 2007. The 2008 program will run from December 21, 2008 to January 4, 2009, with an optional mainland safari from January 5 - January 10, 2009.

Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of international and comparative law in a rich, diverse, and exciting academic and cultural environment while exploring the extraordinary history, sights and beaches of Zanzibar. The optional safari will provide students and family with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore Tanzania's spectacular game reserves. There is no other program of this kind offered by any American law school.

Distinguished international law faculty will present a cutting-edge two credit ABA-approved course on Slavery, Human Trafficking and the Law.

Students will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with prominent judges and lawyers working in the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda, located nearby in Arusha, Tanzania and with NGO representatives and UN personnel working to combat the twin scourges of modern day slavery and human trafficking.

A wonderful opportunity to study law and make a difference while enjoying the intoxicating ambiance of one of the world’s most exciting, historical, and mysterious island settings.

Zanzibar's natural beauty, rich history, and pristine beaches attracts many tourists.  Stone Town has been designated a World Heritage site, and is popular because of its narrow alleys, beautiful coral stone buildings, and warm Swahili atmosphere. Zanzibar also boasts an abundance of wildlife, on land and sea, including rare red colobus monkeys, which can only be found in Zanzibar, dolphins, and giant sea turtles. Zanzibar is truly an island paradise.
