Seton Hall Law School is pleased to offer you an outstanding simulcast program in celebration of Constitution Day on September 17, 2007. As you may recall, the 2006 Guantánamo Teach-In was an amazing success, with three hundred colleges, universities, medical schools, divinity schools and law schools participating. A DVD of the Guantánamo Teach-In program sponsored last year by Seton Hall Law School is available. This year, Seton Hall’s Constitution Day program considers Interrogation as a Means of Intelligence Gathering. There are currently two different interrogation models: the Criminal Law Model and the National Security Model. Both the Criminal and National Security models raise unique and challenging constitutional questions. The role of the constitution in national security interrogations is a central issue of this time. The efficacy and the reliability of the process of interrogation has long been part of constitutional considerations when applied to the Criminal Law Model; consideration of the efficacy and reliability of such interrogation under the National Security Model has not been addressed as part of that constitutional calculus. Therefore, the Constitutional Day program will include input and insight from social sciences, including psychology and medicine, when considering the constitutionality, efficacy and reliability of intelligence gathering by interrogation. The Constitution Day program will be directly relevant to faculty and students of International Law, Human Rights, Political Science, Criminal Justice, and various other Social Sciences at all participating schools. The Constitution Day program will feature two sessions. The program will also be simulcast live to all participating academic institutions and each school will receive a DVD recording of the program for their subsequent use. Additionally, a comprehensive bibliography as well as proposed discussion questions will be provided in advance of the program. |
