Pro Bono Service Programs

PSE&G STREET LAW PROJECT
 
[New Jersey local area] - a) High Schools- In an effort to combat illiteracy which contributes to crime in urban areas, the Project targets at-risk youth in Newark and other inner city communities. Using a text developed specifically for teenagers, law interns teach law in local high schools and juvenile detention centers. The syllabus includes an introduction to the legal system, criminal law, family law, housing law and individual rights and liberties. b) Urban Schools Service Corps - The Corps is one of fifteen demonstration programs selected for funding by Corporation for National and Community Service. Corps members provide services and after-school activities for students and parents in twelve urban schools throughout New Jersey. Using materials designed to stimulate thought about the dangers of substance abuse and violence, law interns teach sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

Eligibility: All law students (2nd and 3rd year students preferred).
