States can be very
large or very small. A state may be as large as China with a
population of over one billion or as small as Nauru with a
population of less than 10,000. But no matter how large or how
small, at least in theory, all states are sovereign, equal an
independent.
United Nations
membership is open only to states. The sovereign equality of
states is a fundamental tenet of its Charter.
Criteria of statehood;
Sovereignty; Role of states in international law; Recognition;
Succession; Immunities; Rights and duties; State responsibility.
