Program 7: INTERNATIONAL DISPUTE SETTLEMENT

States have both a duty to refrain from the use of force and an obligation to resolve their disputes peacefully. These are basic tenets of modern international law. A purpose of the United Nations is to "...bring about by peaceful means and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the ;peace."
