7: INTERNATIONAL DISPUTE SETTLEMENT
States have both
a duty to refrain from the use of force and an obligation to
resolve their disputes peacefully. These are basic tenets of
modern international law. A purpose of the United Nations is
to "...bring about by peaceful means and in conformity
with the principles of justice and international law,
adjustment or settlement of international disputes or
situations which might lead to a breach of the ;peace."
