Biography


Professor Wefing received his A.B. from St. Peter's College, his J.D. from Catholic University and his LL.M. from New York University. He has practiced privately in New Jersey, and was named Young Lawyer of the Year by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar Association in 1978.  He was a teaching assistant at Fordham University, and a visiting professor at St. John's University, Catholic University and Cardoza Law School. He also taught Criminal Law and Jurisprudence at Rutgers University School of Law.  He has published in the area of Criminal Law and Procedure. Professor Wefing was the 1988 recipient of the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for outstanding service to Seton Hall University. He has served as Professor-in-Residence, Schering Berlin Co.

Professor Wefing came to Seton Hall in 1968 and served as Associate Dean from 1979-82 and as Acting Dean from January to June 1988.  From 1997 to 2004 he held the Richard J. Hughes Chair in Constitutional and Public Law.  He has been chosen twice as Professor of the Year (1987 and 2004).  In 2003-04 he was acting Director of the Law Library.  Professor Wefing is “of counsel” to the firm of Waters, McPherson, McNeill.  He also has served on numerous State Commissions and Bar Association Committees.  He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Dominic Academy and was recently inducted into its Hall of Fame.

Biography of Richard J. Hughes, former Governor of New Jersey and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

The books will examine Hughes's roles as Lawyer, Assistant United State Attorney, County Court Judge, Superior Court Judge, Appellate Division Judge, Governor and Chief Justice.
