Seton Hall Law School is a national leader in the study of health
law and policy. In recent years, the Health Law & Policy Program
and Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology have increasingly focused
on the changing legal landscape for the pharmaceutical and medical
device industries. This focus has been achieved through increased
attention to these industries in our work on health regulatory and
corporate matters. Situated in the heart of the pharmaceutical and
medical device capital, Seton Hall Law School has the resources,
expertise, and history to educate and place well-prepared
professionals for work in various capacities in pharmaceutical and
medical device industries.
The pharmaceutical industry is facing an
unprecedented time of change and challenge that will require
creativity and resources. Seton Hall University School of Law's
Center for Health & Pharmaceutical Law is
the ideal think tank for the academic analysis of these complex and
vitally important developments. The school’s long-standing and
deep expertise in health law and intellectual property allow it to
move quickly and confidently into the scholarly tasks raised by the
rapid developments in the drug and device fields.
Seton Hall
Law's focus on pharmaceutical law:
The Health Law & Policy Program
Seton Hall Law School’s reputation in health law is a product of
its strength in teaching and research. We have developed a
program of study for our students that provides an up-to-date,
sophisticated treatment of vitally important health law and policy
issues. The program is anchored by
six
professors having, combined, 60 years of teaching and publishing
experience. These professors, along with our talented pool of
adjuncts, many of whom
play leading roles within the industry, bring a range of expertise
including pharmaceutical regulation, corporate governance, health
finance, human subject research, bioethics and business ethics.
Visiting professors,
practitioners,
guest lecturers, and symposia provide ongoing
opportunities for intellectual debate concerning health law’s
emerging issues.
The Health Law & Policy Program has a
demonstrated record of educational excellence in three degree
programs: J.D. (the basic three-year lawyer’s degree), LL.M. (the
post-graduate specialty degree for practicing lawyers), and M.S.J.
(the 30-credit masters level degree for employees in the health and
intellectual property fields).
The Gibbons Institute of Law, Science, and Technology
Seton Hall Law School’s
Institute
of Law, Science & Technology (ILST) has cultivated a
relationship with the
New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association
(NJIPLA). Together, the ILST and NJIPLA have hosted
educational seminars and lectures at the Law School since 2003.
With a strong membership representing the New-Jersey based
pharmaceutical patent industry, NJIPLA has worked closely with ILST
to co-host guest lecturers who have addressed timely patent-related
topics.
Conveniently located in the heart of technology-rich
New Jersey, Seton Hall Law School’s ILST has the opportunity to call
upon numerous, experienced intellectual property practitioners who
teach as adjunct professors at the Law School.
The Health Care Compliance Certification
Program
The Health Care Compliance Certification Program at Seton Hall
Law School is the most innovative program of its kind in the
country. Launched in 2003, this multi-day educational program for
compliance professionals and lawyers in the pharmaceutical and
medical device industries immerses attendees in the statutes,
regulations and other guidance that comprise the body of law known
as “fraud, waste and abuse law,” as well as Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) law, HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley, so they can
understand the legal underpinnings of the compliance programs that
they oversee. To date, more than 260 pharmaceutical/medical device
professionals representing more than 20 companies in 10 states, as
well as Puerto Rico, Singapore, Belgium, Netherlands, and Japan have
participated in the program.
