Laptop Requirements
All incoming SHU Law students are REQUIRED to possess a laptop that meets our minimum specifications and use it for various class purposes and for all law school exams. As the law school classroom experience integrates technology daily (Lexis, Westlaw, legal research) and all law school exams are taken using exam software, having and using a laptop is essential to a successful law school career. As many students already own a laptop, as long as yours meets our minimum specifications below you should be ready for class.
MINIMUM PC-based Laptop or Tablet Specifications: The following are SHU Law's MINIMUM specifications for law school pc-based laptops or tablets. Please note that we do not officially recommend brands, only components.
CPU: Mobile Intel Pentium 4 or M 2ghz or better, Intel Core2 1.5gig or better, or similar AMD
Memory: 1GB or better Hard Drive: 80gb or better
Screen: 14" or better on standard models, 12" or better on lighter models, 10" on netbooks
Video: 800x600 resolution
Wireless: Internal or external 802.11 a or g (B no longer supported)
Other Necessary Devices: USB, integrated 10/100 network card
Operating System: XP Pro (not XP Home) or better
MAC Users - Macs are acceptable for use at SHU Law but may have limited functionality in certain applications. These include web Banner Student Info (registration, grades online, student account information) and other browser-accessible services. In addition the law school has minimal MAC software or resources available and can offer only limited support. Minimum specs on MACs are comparable to those above (such as a well equipped MacBook or MacBook Pro), but your MAC must have wireless A,G or N, through an Aircard, and run on OS 10.5.x or 10.6.x.
