Virus Alerts and Removal Information
If you believe your PC is infected with a virus, spyware or malware, please perform the following steps:
1. Run Windows Updates: In most instances it is critical for your operating system to be as up to date as possible. On a regular basis you should run Windows Updates and download and install all Microsoft critical updates. Microsoft regularly adds updates so check often, and if alerted the answer is always yes...
2. Update Your Norton Anti-Virus to the latest DAT Extension: This is critical as new viruses are launched quickly and unexpectedly. Keeping up to date decreases your chances of infection, or at least lets you know what virus you contracted.
3. Run a Norton Anti-Virus Scan: Once you are up to date with both Windows Updates and Norton Anti-Virus DATs, run an anti-virus scan. This will detect any viruses and hopefully delete or quarantine them.
4. Install and run Malwarebytes or similar anti-spyware malware program:Installing and running an antispyware/malware program may detect problems before they become critical.
If after performing the above steps a Norton's scan does not come up clean, that's when it gets tricky. You may need to run one of the corresponding Removal Tools or perform special instructions listed below to remove any remnants of the virus from your Windows system or Windows registry. At that point it is best to visit our Law Helpdesk in the computer lab to further examine your PC...
