Membership in the Seton Hall Circuit Review is limited to second and third year law students who are
selected on the basis of their performance on an annual writing competition coupled with their first
year GPA. Seton Hall Law School students who are interested in joining the Circuit Review must
participate in the write-on competition at the end of their 1L year.
All members are selected based on a combination of their first year grades and their write-on
competition scores. The competition requires students to describe and analyze a recent U.S. Supreme
Court or Court of Appeals decision. The current members and editors grade each submission focusing
on the author’s style, substance, citations, conclusion, and spelling grammar and punctuation.
In recent years, the number of students who complete the competition has ranged from 100 to 150. Of
these, between 15 and 30 students will be asked to join the Circuit Review. Students involved in
the competition will be notified of the results in late July. Those students who are selected to
join the Circuit Review must return to the law school towards the end of the summer to begin work
on the first issue of the current volume.
