Educating New Jersey Students on the Importance of the U.S. Constitution

A free civic video, titled “We The People… The U.S. Constitution and You,” was recently donated to high schools and other organizations in New Jersey by Seton Hall University School of Law in cooperation with the Committee for Citizen Awareness, a nonpartisan group devoted to enhancing the public’s understanding of the workings of our democracy.

The contribution, initiated by Law School Dean Patrick E. Hobbs, will benefit thousands of high school, community and junior college students, and others in New Jersey. The videos, which will help students and others to learn more about how the U.S. Constitution affects their daily lives, were produced in conjunction with Senator Robert Menendez and U.S. Representatives Donald M. Payne of the 10th District, and Frank Pallone from the 6th District.

For the first time last year, a new law required high schools and other educational organizations across the country to hold a program pertaining to the U.S. Constitution on or around September 17th, which has been designated Constitution Day. The video provided by Seton Hall Law School can help high schools to meet that requirement.

Caroline Kennedy, author of several books, including, “In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action,” and daughter of President John F. Kennedy, narrates the documentary.

“Seton Hall Law School became involved with this public service project to help educate young people in New Jersey about the importance of the principles contained within our Constitution and to encourage their active participation as involved and informed citizens,” said Dean Hobbs, who also appears in the documentary. “Knowing about the Constitution and the principles that protect our way of life are integral to maintaining the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. We are confident that this ‘We the People’ video will help young people and others in New Jersey to have a greater understanding of this important document.”

“We The People…The U.S. Constitution and You” is similar in format to, and produced by the same non-profit organization, as the well-received, award-winning video series about the three branches of government: “The U.S. Congress and You,” “Your Court System and You,” and “The Executive Branch and You,” as well as videos concerning the American standard of living and patriotism. Over 30 million people have seen these educational videos nationwide, thanks to the support provided by over 3,000 corporations, universities, and other organizations in the United States.
