Greetings! Please direct any questions to Lauren Zuffante (zuffanla@shu.edu).

Welcome to the website for the Seton Hall Law Intellectual Property Law Association (IPLA)!  We hope you find this website to be helpful in pursuing your goals in intellectual property.

Our Goals

The Intellectual Property Law Association at Seton Hall Law is dedicated to educating all students about the various aspects of and opportunities to practice intellectual property law.  The IPLA sponsors lectures throughout the year by professors and practicing attorneys on a variety of intellectual property issues, ranging from the prosecution of biotechnology patents to the protection of corporate trade secrets.  In addition, the IPLA seeks to assist students interested in entering the practice of intellectual property law by hosting “meet and greet” sessions with practicing attorneys from major law firms in the vicinity of Seton Hall Law.

What is Intellectual Property?

"Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind:  inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce."

"Intellectual property is divided into two categories:  Industrial property, which includes inventions (patents), trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source; and Copyright, which includes literary and artistic works such as novels, poems and plays, films, musical works, artistic works such as drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures, and architectural designs.  Rights related to copyright include those of performing artists in their performances, producers of phonograms in their recordings, and those of broadcasters in their radio and television programs."
