The Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA) at Seton Hall University School of Law is a non-profit organization committed to the following goals:

  •  Fostering individual achievements
  •  Providing necessary services to the law school community
  •  Addressing legal issues of the minority community.

LALSA was first established in 1972 to facilitate the adjustment and integration of Latino students into the law school community. One of our principal roles has been to identify the academic, financial and social needs of the Latino students at Seton Hall Law. We have hosted various forums on academic support, professional development and minority representation in the legal community. In addition, our members have established strong ties with local attorneys, the New Jersey Hispanic Bar Association (NJHBA), the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (PRLDEF), the Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA), the Dominican Bar Association (DBA) and other organizations through the efforts of our LALSA networking community.

Our mission is to educate the law school community on the benefits of diversity and create awareness of the challenges that Latino communities currently face.

LALSA achieves its goals by providing academic, professional and social support for all students by recognizing the achievements of Latino students and alum, so that lessons may be learned, mentorship relationships created, and friendships established among the current LALSA members.

Annual Scholarship Banquet

LALSA recognizes the ever-increasing cost of obtaining a legal education. That is why we have established two scholarships that are awarded at this annual event:

Ricardo Esquivel Scholarship - funded by LALSA, this scholarship was established in memory of a former law school professor.
