Network Accounts - Local Active Directory (AD), Wireless, Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law

Upon admittance to Seton Hall Law School, all students are provided with a local Microsoft Active Directory (AD) network account that allows access at over 100 computer stations in our labs and library, as well as our copier/printers and school-wide wireless network. From our stations you can access local programs such as Word and Excel, store documents in your network "home" folder , and connect to the Internet at high speed, and access our cloud portal (where you will need to login again using your portal password).

Login using your Local AD Account on Lab and Library workstations

To access your local AD account on computer lab and library workstations, please login with your login code and password.  Your login code (also known as your shortname) is an 8 letter code usually consisting of the first 6 letters of your LAST name and the first 2 of your FIRST name. If your last name is less than 6 letters then you code is your entire last name and as much of your first name as you can until you reach 8 letters. (Ex: SMITHJOE for Joe Smith).  If your last and first name together do not consist of 8 letters, then use your entire last name and first name. (Ex. BELLJOE for Joe Bell).

Your first time password is a combination of the letters "SHLS" in CAPs, then the last 4 of your Student ID, then the "#" sign. (Ex. SHLS0000#)

Your local AD account allows you access to all core programs available on our public lab and library stations, as well as network copier/printers and our law school wireless system. Your account also provides you with up to 2gb of local storage on our network drives for files and other data in a private home directory (accessible only on workstations within the law school building).  Network storage space is designed for saving data such as word processing documents, pdfs and other school related data. Please do not use this space for game storage, .exe files, Jpgs, pics or any other picture or movie files, or any other non-school related documents.

Please note that your local AD account and your LawNet/Portal (cloud) account are two separate accounts and have two separate passwords.  While you can use the same login information for both accounts if you so choosechanging one account's password does not change the other.  This is by design, as one account is for local law school resources while the other is for cloud resources, such as your Office 365 email, OneDrive storage and other outside law school resources.

  • Wireless Access - LAW_PUBLIC

The Division of Legal Computing maintains a wireless network throughout our entire law building based on the 802.11a/g/n standard. A good signal (10 -54mb/sec) can be maintained in our classrooms and law library, clinics, journals, cafeteria and atrium. Faculty and administration offices are also covered, as well as our conference rooms, auditorium, open seating and outdoor lawns.

Accessing our Law School wireless network - LAW_PUBLIC

If you have a laptop, tablet or other wireless device with 11a/g or n capability, your device can access our LAW_PUBLIC wireless network inside or near the law building as long as you have an valid Law School Active Directory (AD) account. Your login code and password are the same as you use on PCs in our computer lab and library. If you cannot connect, please see our Law Helpdesk for an account check or a password reset.

However, in order to better maintain a stable wireless connection please follow the recommended laptop setup listed on our wireless configuration webpage.
