New Jersey Law Schools Delay on Campus Interviews Until January/February 2021 Due to Pandemic

Both New Jersey law schools, Rutgers Law School in Camden and Newark and Seton Hall University School of Law announced they will postpone their On-Campus Interview (OCI) Program for the class of 2022 until at least January 2021.

Consistent with the growing trend among law schools and law firms across the nation, the decision comes on the heels of both schools’ decisions to adopt Pass/Fail grading for all students this semester. The one semester shift to Pass/Fail grades means that first year law students will have a single semester of grades going into their second-year fall semester, when law firm summer associate On-Campus Interviewing traditionally occurs.

In deferring OCI until spring 2021, Rutgers and Seton Hall Law join a growing list of law schools delaying on-campus interviewing, thereby allowing rising second year students the opportunity to earn another semester of letter grades before submitting their resumes to employers. It is also hoped that a spring 2021 interviewing season will allow for live interviews to occur.

“Our decision to postpone interviews ensures our students are provided with the best opportunity to compete for their ideal summer opportunities,” observed the deans of the three New Jersey campuses, Kathleen Boozang, Seton Hall Law, David Lopez, Rutgers Law School in Newark, and Kimberly Mutcherson, Rutgers Law School in Camden.
