Corporate & Foundation Relations and Government Grants

verizon-fellowship-groupThe office of Corporate & Foundation Relations at Seton Hall Law School serves as a liaison between the Dean, faculty and administration of the Law School and corporations, foundations, non-government as well as government organizations.  Through an exploration of the Law School’s mission, goals and strategic plan in conjunction with the mission, goals and objectives of the above-mentioned external organizations, Corporate & Foundation Relations seeks to identify an alignment of priorities, strengths and interests that will mutually benefit both the Law School and the funding organization.

Housed within the offices of Alumni and Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations prepares grant proposals, letters of intent, and other materials, as needed.  The Law School regularly partners with private industry to seek input and suggestions regarding timely research topics, speakers with expertise in the private sector, and ways to enhance the curriculum to best prepare the next generation of lawyers.  In addition to these relationships, Corporate & Foundation Relations focuses on four areas of growth identified in the 2007-2012 Seton Hall Law School Strategic Plan that directly impact and assist the Law School in achieving its goals.

Centers of Excellence:  Seton Hall Law School’s Centers of Excellence provide intensive, specialized study in a variety of legal areas, permitting students to explore and take advanced courses not typically available at all Law Schools.  Therefore, diversified funding is sought in support of:

• The Center for Health & Pharmaceutical Law
• The Healthcare Compliance Certification Program
• The Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology
• The Center for Social Justice

Facilities:  Seton Hall Law School dedicated its current One Newark Center building in 1991.  With a student body of approximately 1,100 students, the Law School is now embarking on a building project to construct much-needed student housing that will permit students to reside in the Newark community rather than commute from neighboring towns.   Updates on the Law School’s residential development project will be posted on the website once they are available.

In addition, the Law School seeks support for technological innovations in the Law School’s Moot Court Room, auditorium, and select classrooms to best prepare law students for the high-tech courtrooms and law firms where they will work.

Public Interest/Public Service Programs and Opportunities:  Seton Hall Law School is committed to training individuals for public service opportunities.  Corporate & Foundation Relations, therefore, seeks opportunities for new and sustainable funding for:

• The Center for Social Justice
• Public Interest and Public Service (within the Office of Career Services)
• Government Employment and Public Service (also within the Office of Career Services)

Our Global Perspective:  “International Law” encompasses several programs within the Law School that explore the law through a comparative or integrative international lens.  To best prepare students for today’s “global workplace,” opportunities are continously explored that provide support for international endeavors in the following areas, among others:

• The Center for Social Justice
• The Center for Health & Pharmaceutical Law & Policy
• The Healthcare Compliance Certification Program
• The Gibbons Institute of Law, Science & Technology
• The Study Abroad program

Additionally, innovative research and special projects take place at Seton Hall Law School throughout the year, often in response to unexpected or unprecedented events and legal activities.  Such events provide learning opportunities for Law School students.   Corporate and Foundation Relations seeks to be responsive to the needs of faculty and students and, therefore, seeks support and partnerships that allow a timely response and/or exploration of special themes and topics.
