Scrapbooks 1948-1988, Bulk

The Scrapbook series of the Peter W. Rodino, Jr. Archives were compiled by Mr. Rodino’s Congressional staff and are a rich source of a wide variety of materials covering Mr. Rodino’s entire political career.

A total of 82 scrapbook volumes are accessible to researchers through PDF and microfilm.  The PDF formats have been indexed allowing for a single search by keyword of the entire collection.

The format of materials is as numerous as the topics covered in the volumes.  Some volumes have solely newspaper clippings, others contain clippings, memorabilia, ephemera, and photographs.

Subject matter covers all aspects of Mr. Rodino’s life while in political office from his legislative initiatives to the inclusion of birthday greetings from family and friends.  Earlier scrapbooks track Mr. Rodino’s legislative work, a record that is lacking in the collection on the whole.  The legislative files begin with the 89th Congress (1965 – 1966), leaving a 16-year span from 1949 to 1964 undocumented in this series.  Press releases begin coverage in 1949, however, press clippings do not cover this period.  Mr. Rodino’s work in Congress in this time period is represented through press clippings in the scrapbooks.

Forty-one unique scrapbooks were retained in the collection.  The remaining volumes were preserved using microfilm and are accessible in PDF format.
