Seton Hall Law New Student Orientation 2019: "Take Advantage of Every Opportunity"

August 14-15, 2019 officially marked the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year.

“You have put so much on the line to achieve the dream of becoming a lawyer – take advantage of every opportunity.”

Seton Hall University School of Law Dean Kathleen M. Boozang spoke these words to over 200 1Ls at 2019’s new student Orientation encouraging students to engage and embrace the experience during their time in law school.

“Today, you make the crucial first steps in becoming a Seton Hall lawyer. The lawyer you become is determined chiefly by where you learn.”

Seton Hall University President Dr. Joseph E. Nyre welcomed the Classes of 2022 and 2023 as they attended their first days of class.

Professor Jamie Pukl-Werbel ’98 shared many words of wisdom imparting the importance of reputation, required focus, and the power of belief in oneself. Day one of Orientation also included a keynote address from U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Craig Carpenito ’00 who shared, “your potential is only limited by your resistance.”

“No opportunity is too great for you.”

New students were inspired to hear from recent graduates Anne M. Collart ‘14, Victoria Gonchar ’13, Nicholas Keller ’14, and Marquis Whitney ’17, about their successes. The alumni provided tips and insight into their time at the Law School.

A special Q&A with United States Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey, The Honorable Michael A. Hammer ’93 provided students with a glimpse into a career on the bench. And before administering the Attorney Oath, New Jersey State Bar President, Evelyn Padin ’92 stated, “Your purpose as future lawyers of America is to provide access to justice. As future lawyers, you know quality, you know liberty, and you know justice.”
