Alumnus David Marella '15 Named to Forbes 30 Under 30![]()
David Marella '15 has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30 Law & Policy list. In 2017, the Trump administration declared the opioid epidemic a public health emergency.
Behind the scenes was David Marella, then a 29-year-old attorney who managed the senior
staff of the White House task force. Following his government service, Marella returned
to corporate law at Gibbons P.C.
In 2017, David Marella received a presidential appointment to serve as advisor to
the executive director of the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and
the Opioid Crisis within the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. In
that role, he advised then-Gov. Chris Christie, who chaired the bipartisan commission
charged with evaluating the federal response to the opioid epidemic and recommending
strategies to President Donald J. Trump.
Marella collaborated with senior officials across the White House and numerous federal
agencies, including the Departments of Health and Human Services, Justice, Labor,
Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, as well as the National Security Council,
to help address one of the nation's most pressing public health crises. To learn more
