The Law School has established the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge and understanding of substantive and procedural law. Students will understand
the fundamental principles of Civil Procedure, Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law, Property,
Professional Responsibility, Constitutional Law, Business Associations, Evidence,
and many elective courses.
Legal analysis and reasoning, legal research, problem solving, and written and oral
communication in the legal context. In this regard, students will be able to:
engage in close reading of a variety of legal texts, including judicial opinions,
statutes, regulations, and constitutions
identify the holding of a judicial opinion
engage in legal analysis, reasoning, and critical thinking
perform legal research
write predictive and persuasive legal documents
deliver a persuasive oral presentation
engage in peer and self-critique of written and oral communication
conduct direct and cross examination of witnesses
present opening statements and closing arguments
engage in negotiation and conflict resolution
conduct interviews
engage in fact development and analysis
identify the financial implications of legal issues
understand the real-world context in which legal issues arise
counsel a client
understand both judicial and alternative avenues for resolution of legal matters

Exercise proper professional and ethical responsibilities to clients and the legal
system. Students will be able to:
recognize and resolve ethical issues in light of legal, ethical, and moral principles

advocate zealously on behalf of their clients in a manner that is consistent with
