Appellate Advocacy

Seton Hall Law Mock Trial Court Room

Overview

Appellate Advocacy is Seton Hall Law’s required upper-level legal writing course. Students build on the research, writing and oral advocacy skills they learn in Introduction to Lawyering by briefing and arguing an appellate case, culminating in a final oral argument before volunteer judges. The course is taught by experienced attorneys, including current and former judges, prosecutors, appellate specialists, private practitioners and in-house counsel.

Appellate Advocacy Executive Board

Students on the Appellate Advocacy Executive Board (E-Board) help oversee the Appellate Advocacy Program during the fall and spring semesters for both day and weekend classes. Board members create challenging legal problems for the Appellate Advocacy and Gressman programs, serve as teaching assistants for Appellate Advocacy classes, participate in oral argument events, attend board meetings and serve as bailiffs during the Gressman Competition and final Appellate Advocacy oral arguments. Applications for the Executive Board open in March.
