Summer jobs provide opportunities to build skills, extend professional networks, and develop strong resumes for future career success

Summer Associate, Calcagni & Kanefsky, the New Jersey Office of Harris, O’Brien, St. Laurent & Chaudhry LLP
I am looking to...become an expert at trial work. At Calcagni & Kanefsky, I get the complete experience, from going to court with the partners to sitting in on client meetings and working on complex legal issues in high-stakes litigation cases. Through this experience, I am building skills that will serve me well next year in the Family Law Clinic and in the future when I become a trial attorney.
How did you obtain the opportunity? Erin Scherzer from the Office of Career Services supported me throughout the OCI process. We started by discussing my career goals and interests, and she sent me personalized updates with job opportunities she thought I would find exciting. Afterward, she shared a series of professional development resources to help me build my skills.
What will you do for fun this summer? In addition to working hard this summer, I look forward to relaxing with my friends and family, soaking up the sun at our lovely Jersey Shore, and taking a trip to California with friends.
Valerie Weiss is also Editor of the Law Review Symposium, taking place October 1. The topic: "Policing the Police and the Community".

Law Clerk, Summit Medical Group
Berkeley Heights, NJ
I want to learn…as much as I possibly can about working in-house in the health law field from the brilliant legal team at Summit Medical Group. I have been working part time with them since last October and jumped at the opportunity to spend the summer soaking in all I can from them full time.
How did you obtain the opportunity? I obtained the position by staying closely connected with our school's incredible Health Law faculty, and sharing my wishes and goals with them.
What will you do for fun this summer? Aside from taking classes and working full time, I plan to spend as much time as possible enjoying my eight-year old daughter, Mara. Mara and I hope to spend time swimming and relaxing at the lake with family. I will be welcoming a niece this summer, so we shall have few dull moments!
