The Seton Hall Law Community Cares

The SBA Community Outreach Committee and the Women’s Law Forum teamed up to sponsor a “Pirates Go Pink” campaign that included successful t-shirt and bake sales

The SBA’s Community Outreach Committee and the Women’s Law Forum teamed up to participate in the Making Strides of Newark NJ 5k Walk Against Breast Cancer. More than 30 students, faculty, friends, and family, including Dean Kathleen M. Boozang, gathered in front of the Prudential Center at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 18 to participate in the 3-mile walk around Newark. In the week leading up to the walk, the students sold more than 100 “Pirates GO PINK!” t-shirts and raised $840 through a bake sale to donate to the American Cancer Society. The project was spearheaded by Saige Subick ’17 of the Women’s Law Forum, Mel Powers ‘16, Chair of the Community Outreach Committee, and Agostino Zammiello ‘16, also a member of the Community Outreach Committee.

“It was nice to see a lot of students and faculty support a great cause like the American Cancer Society,” Zammiello said. “It really shows that Seton Hall Law is such a caring community, and that everyone here wants to help out and get involved in Newark. I look forward to organizing another walk or run, and hopefully even more students and faculty will be able to participate. I want to thank everyone who supported and helped out in any way.”

“The ‘Pirates Go Pink!’ pride this Sunday was truly outstanding,” Subrick concurred. “It was inspiring to see so many Seton Hall members wake up early on their last day of break to show their support for such a worthy cause. Our school is working hard to become more involved with the Newark community, and by engaging with the American Cancer Society’s team in Newark we have taken a great step toward achieving that goal. The generosity and support of Seton Hall members is always incredible and the Women’s Law Forum is proud to have partnered with the Committee Outreach Committee. We also look forward to participating next year.”

Seton Hall Law will host a Pirates GO PINK Day on Thursday October 29, where the Community Outreach Committee and the Women’s Law Forum will host another bake sale. Students will be encouraged to wear their “Pirates GO PINK!” t-shirts. All of the proceeds made that day will be donated to the American Cancer Society to fight breast cancer.
