Certificate Program Information

What is the time commitment for completing graduate certificate programs online?

It takes 8 weeks to complete each online graduate course. A certificate can be earned in 24 weeks, after the completion of three courses. All coursework must be completed in the sequence in which it is offered. You should plan to spend 3-4 hours per credit per week on online coursework, including reading assignments, research and writing projects, and online discussions.

Can I complete a graduate certificate course faster or slower than the eight weeks?

No. Our online graduate law courses are not self-paced; all course work must be completed in the sequence in which it is offered.

Are my graduate certificate course credits transferable to Seton Hall degree programs?

Students who successfully complete an online graduate course in law and subsequently enroll in the Master of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) program may apply all nine certificate credits (three courses) towards the M.L.S. degree, provided the student’s final grade in each graduate certificate course sought to be applied was a B or higher. However, pursuant to American Bar Association rules, certificate program credits may not be applied towards a J.D. degree.

Will my certificate state that I earned it online?

No, our online graduate certificate programs will be the same as if you took the program in a campus-based setting.

What is the cost of an online graduate course?

Tuition information is available under the 'Breakdown of Tuition and Fees' tab.

Is financial aid available?

Financial Aid is not available for students who are enrolled only in online graduate certificate programs. However, fully-matriculated M.L.S. degree students can receive financial aid for online courses taken as part of the regular M.L.S. curriculum.

Do I need to come to the law school to complete the online certificates?

No. All of your coursework will be completed online, at the location of your choosing.

When does the next session of the program begin?

Online Graduate Certificate programs start five times per year. The courses always begin on a Sunday and end on a Saturday. For information about upcoming start dates, please call us at 973-642-8482 or email us at [email protected]

Do I need to be in a certain profession to be admitted?

No. While the legal education program is specifically designed to meet the needs of mid- to senior-level professionals already working in jobs related to the subject matter of the courses, it is also open to qualified students seeking to enter these fields.
