First-year law students may not compete in interscholastic competitions. Students
may participate in only one interscholastic competition per semester. Students participating
in a spring interscholastic competition generally may not also participate in the
Gressman Competition unless they receive a waiver from the Associate Dean for Experiential
Education. To support continued learning and development, students may not be members
of both the Interscholastic Moot Court Board and the Mock Trial Team.
Competitions are sponsored by law schools, bar associations, including the American
Bar Association, and specialty bar organizations. Faculty and advocacy program directors
select competitions that align with the law school’s academic mission. The law school
establishes selection processes to promote equitable access and requires prerequisites
to ensure students are academically prepared. Because resources for coaching, advising
and travel are limited, Seton Hall Law selects competitions that provide the strongest
educational opportunities and does not participate in every nationally sponsored competition.
The law school does not maintain an interscholastic dispute resolution team. Students
interested in alternative dispute resolution and mediation should contact Professor David White about simulation and live-client course offerings through the Conflict Management
Program.
