The Interscholastic Moot Court Board at Seton Hall Law competes in appellate moot court competitions nationwide. The team typically consists of 40-45 upper-class students selected through a competitive process that requires a significant commitment. The Board is consistently ranked among the top 10 programs nationally and helps students develop legal writing and oral advocacy skills. Members participate in approximately 20 national competitions each year, earning one credit per competition. Topics vary and include criminal law, family law, constitutional law, health law, sports and entertainment law, bankruptcy, securities and civil rights.
Students in good academic standing are invited to join the Board through participation in the law school’s intraschool moot court competitions. Gressman Moot Court Competition winners and finalists, as well as Ronald J. Riccio First-Year Moot Court Competition quarterfinalists, semifinalists, finalists and winners, are invited to join or considered for membership. Additional invitations may be extended based on competition performance, team needs and budget considerations at the director’s discretion. Appellate Advocacy is a prerequisite for competition participation. Students must be selected for and become members of the Board to compete in national moot court competitions.
