From January 6-17, 2020, select Seton Hall Law students immersed themselves in the Denis F. McLaughlin Advanced Trial Advocacy Workshop - an intense two-week experience for 16 of the Law School’s most committed trial advocacy students.
Endowed by the law firm O’Toole Scrivo, LLC, the Workshop honored the life’s work of Seton Hall Law Professor Denis F. McLaughlin. The curriculum covered each aspect of a trial as students learned from highly skilled attorney coaches, culminating with students trying cases at federal or state courthouses before federal judges including United States District Judges for the District of NJ, The Honorable Katharine Hayden ’75, The Honorable Madeline Cox Arleo ’89, The Honorable Michael Shipp ’94, and United States Magistrate Judge for the District of NJ, The Honorable Michael Hammer ’93.
In addition, students heard from a panel of distinguished speakers during the Workshop, including The Honorable Brian R. Martinotti ’86, United States District Judge, District of New Jersey; Craig Carpenito ’00, United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey; Michael Farbiarz, General Counsel, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Betsy Fishbone, VP, Senior Associate General Counsel, Colgate-Palmolive Company; Tanya Holcomb, VP, and General Counsel, Global Litigation, Honeywell International; Bruce Nagel, Partner, Nagel Rice LLP; and Anthony Slimowicz, Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer, Crum & Forster.
